What brought you to New Life?

I came to Petaluma from Hawaii in 1997 to be the founding pastor of New Life. Over the course of more than 25 years of ministry God had been giving me an increasing desire to reach out to those who weren’t currently connected to Him through an existing church, so I came ready to start a church designed to reach this people group.

Who influenced you the Most in Your Formative Years?

My 5th Grade teacher, Mr. Trexler, taught me how to love learning, a value that still profoundly influences me. However, my father was by far the greatest influencer as I grew up. Through the way he lived his daily life he taught me much about healthy living, kindness, faith, service, sacrifice and dedication.

Ministry Passion(s):

My greatest ministry passion is seeing people’s lives change as they get connected to God and come under His influence. Nothing excites me more than watching them begin to experience maximum living by aligning themselves with God’s purposes.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Two things finish in a dead heat as my greatest challenges. Although very necessary, paperwork is an energy drain for me. I would far rather be doing something more people-oriented. Managing is the other energy drain in my workplace. I love equipping and empowering people, but managing them requires all the self-discipline I can muster.

What Can Always Make You Laugh?

My pre-school grandchildren and the group of guys I meet with each Friday morning at Deaf Dog Coffee. Both have a way of helping me relax and see the comical side of life.
